Yesterday's Light and Shadow

Yesterday, as I stood at the counter cutting spirals with my favorite little scissors, I looked up to see this fantastic show of light and shadow. Sunlight from the windows behind me flowed through a gold vase of hydrangeas on the counter to dance with shadows on the kitchen wall. The heat rising from the radiator below caused a rippling, flickering effect. The picture changed constantly. I couldn’t look away. I couldn't tell if time was softly flowing past or strangely blossoming outward for those minutes.

The photos were taken 11/22/08. Click on images to enlarge.

What a talent to see the beautiful in the mundane and everyday objects surrounding you. It's a lovely picture and great insight.

I appreciate that, Tara. I imagine you do the same, as evidenced by your imaginative clay art.

Hey, Christine - guess you won't be surprised to hear that I love these shots. Gorgeous. I was on a long train journey home today watching the reflections of the window flowing across my notebook like a captive sea, wondering if I could somehow trace it, film it, remember it......the low sun seems to be casting playful shadows this year.

Hello, Spot -- Yes, our mutual fascination! I loved the way you described the window reflections on your notebook as "a captive sea." It's hard for the eye to hold on to those fleeting, fragile gifts, isn't it?
