Floating Daisies

I'm not sure why it gave me such calming pleasure to float African daisies (Osteospermum) in an old white bowl covered with big turquoise polka dots. But it did. I love the variety with the unusual purple "spooned" petals. (I believe it's called "Pink Whirls.") I also discovered that the daisies cast wonderful dancing shadows, like an animated child's drawing of flowers.

Photos were taken 5/13 and 5/14/08. Click on pictures to enlarge.

You remind me of the Wallace Stevens poem-- about the carnations in the vase...Poems of Our Climate. The shadow photo is really cool!

Thanks, Pam. What a great connection. I looked up Wallace Stevens' poem on the Internet. Here's part: "The day itself / Is simplified: a bowl of white, / Cold, a cold porcelain, low and round, / With nothing more than the carnations there." The words go deeper following that. Visitors, just Google "The Poems of Our Climate" to find it and read it in its entirety.

Yes, it gets into the whole idea of creativity I think, his own struggles, the nature of poetry. And thanks for the photos!
